My Dad is turning 80!

Dad will be 80 years old on the 30th so I HAD to make him a card!  I wasn't going to post it, on the off chance he would read this, but I'm really looking for some opinions here... so let me say this first:

DAD!  Quit reading this RIGHT NOW, YOUNG MAN!  No peeking!

Okay, now, there's a back story to this card.  When talking to my dad on the phone he always used to say "Hey, it's my favorite middle child!"  I told him that wasn't good enough and made him change it to "favorite child."  Then, when he was saying that regularly I had him change it to "favorite PERSON."  Now we're up to "favorite person in the universe, and beyond!"  See how well I can train him?  LOL!  I love my dad!

Anyway I created this card just for him (and, Dad, if you're still reading... you're GROUNDED!):

Do you like it?  I hope he does!  =D

Shaped cards!

At the HappiScrappin Challenge Blog it's time to challenge ourselves to break out of that square/rectangle RUT and make a shaped project!  Any shape other than the square and rectangle mentioned, go crazy!  The HappiSisters have made some gorgeous cards, you have to go look at them.  I feel honored to be on a design team with such talented individuals.

Here's my card:

I'm also entering this card in the following challenges:

Outlaws anything but square challenge
and Whoopsi Daisy let's get in shape challenge

Isn't that teddy bear a cutie?  You can find him, along with a bunch of other beautiful digis at the Happileigh Scrappin store.  It's always buy-3-get-1-free at Leigh's store, what a great deal!  Plus she's giving away this gorgeous digi with every sale during July!
How sweet is that?!

My card shape was made on my Silhouette in three layers; the card base (which you can't see), the blue scalloped flower, and the pink polka dotted layer with the cutout triangles.  The cutiepie bear I've already mentioned, don't you just want to hug him?  He was colored with Copic markers, then I added Stickles to the flower and to the bears blue eyes.  I used a small StampinUp! punch for the little blue flowers, then added a gem and Stickles. Two of the little flowers are popped up, as is the bear and the sentiment.  There is a tiny layer of Stickles on the sentiment too.  Can't have enough sparkle!

Head on over to the challenge, let's see what shapes you can make!

Create your own embellishment!

The HappiChallenge this week is to create your own embellishment.  Starla wants to see those handmade flowers and buttons, etc.  Use a ribbon to make a flower, or use punches or whatever toys you have.  Diecutting machines count so break out your Silhouette, Cricut, or Big Shot!  Here's what I came up with:

The digi is Leighs Happy Everything Vase, and it can be found here, as can all of her other beautiful designs.  I colored it with Copic markers.  The card base is embossed and I added gems to brighten everything up.  The yellow "ribbon" was made with the Stampin Up! ribbon punch and the butterflies are from their Beautiful Wings embosslet.  I used some green glitter glue on the wings because butterflies should shine!  The image is on a shape cut from a Spellbinders Nestability and is popped up above the card.

The HappiChallenge is here.  Enter!  As always, you don't have to use one of Leigh's designs to win, but your entry will count twice if you do.  What a great deal!

Speaking of deals, when you shop at Leigh's store it's always Buy-3-get-1-FREE!  AND she's giving away a beautiful clock design with every purchase in July.  This is the clock:

It comes with the sentiment as well.  Isn't it lovely?  So, go buy stuff!  What are you waiting for?  =D

So much for the weather.

After posting on Wednesday about how much I was loving the weather Minnesota has shown her true colors.  It's been cloudy and rainy ever since.  I'm sitting here in my living room at almost 11 AM and it's dark enough to be midnight.  The thunder is keeping me awake, or I'd be napping in my recliner.  For my Texas friends, I tried yesterday to convince the rain to head your way.   No such luck though.

I hope you're having a better day than I am!

Hola peeps!

It is a gorgeous day today, and I was actually out in it for a while.  Driving topless!  I do love my Dodge Shadow convertible.  =D  Oh!  Were you thinking something else?  NAUGHTY!   The car is old, and is named Leaky for a reason.  By now I think there are more holes than there is fabric in the top, but on days like today it's the perfect car!

I've been working on my card for next week's HappiChallenge, the hard part is done, now it's just assembly.  Look for it on Monday!

Monday means back to work for me, finally.  Having time off is fun, but it's not as fun when you're hurting.  Can you see me pouting?  I'm planning to enjoy the next four days, then jump back into my job with both feet.  It's surprising how much I miss it!

What have YOU been up to?

There's a mouse in the house!

Or at least in the garden...  The challenge at the HappiChallenge blog this week is all about critters!  Leigh has some great digis with mice, cats, butterflies, ladybugs, etc., and I want to see some creations!   Here's mine:

This little guy was colored with Copic markers.  I used my Creative Memories shape cutter, it had been collecting dust for too long!  The card base is kraft paper with Perfect Pearls to make it shine.  I added some flowers, gems, and a sentiment to complete my card.

Go to Leigh's store and find a critter that you love, make a card, ATC, layout, whatever, and submit it to the challenge.  Remember, you don't have to use one of Leigh's digis, but if you DO your entry is counted twice!  What a great deal!   I'm really lookibg forward to seeing what YOU come up with!

July ATC swap

It's time for the July ATC swap.  I have to say how much I've been enjoying these swaps.  The cards I've received have been gorgeous!  The theme for July is Shoes or Purses, I chose purses because I found a fun stamp.  I got it at the Rubber Stamp Expo, and as soon as I can remember the name of the company I'll edit this post and add it. (ETA:  Found it!  The stamp is from Too Much Fun.  The link is to the page with the folding purses, but check out the shirts and other stuff too!) Here's my ATC:

And here it is when the purse is open:
Isn't that fun?  LOL!  I used a stamp to make the patterned paper, added a sentiment, used velcro as the closer for the purse, put some bling in the upper rt hand corner, printed and cut some monopoly money, and added a silver bow as final touch.  Do you like it?

Frame it!

The challenge at HappiChallenge blog this week is to FRAME something!  This was HappiSister Chris' challenge and she says:

Frame it.  What does that mean to you?  Farme the whole project or frame an image?  It's up to you, as long as something somewhere on your card is framed.
I was in a silly mood and this is how I interpreted the challenge:
 And the inside:
I love this digi, Tatters is such a scamp!  You can find him at Leigh's Store.  The image was colored with Copic markers.  The frame is a file by Ileana at I Scrap Designs.  Her cut files are awesome!  I used gold Stickles on the decoration layer.  The design on the card is from a stencil, I used paint instead of ink for a more distressed look.
The challenge can be found here, so rush there to place your entry!  Remember, you don't have to use a HappiLeighScrappin image to win... BUT if you DO your entry counts twice!  Enter!  WIN!  I'll be looking for your entry!

Leigh is giving away a gorgeous new digi, free with any purchase, for the month of July.  Check it out:

Isn't it lovely?

See you later!
